The GME Schools

The schools

There are currently (more or less) four GME Primary Schools and one GME Secondary School in Glasgow.

Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu

English: Glasgow Gaelic Primary School, aka BSGG, Berkeley St, SGG, NW Gaelic

  • This was the first dedicated GME primary school in Glasgow opened 1999 in Ashley Street, Woodlands and moved to Berkeley Street in 2006 as a combined 3-18 campus with pre-school, primary and secondary in one building.

When the school was formed this tartan was designed based on the Galsgow Tartan and registered as “Gaelic School ITI Number 8066” with the Tartans Authority (“as far as I know”…. this needs some citation or resarch)

Bun Sgoil Ghàidhlig a’ challtainn

English: Calton Gaelic Primary School, aka BSGC, Calton, NE Gaelic

This school is due to open in August 2025. The catchment area has been defined and the former St James’s building at 88 Green Street, Calton is being redeveloped to house the school A cohort of children and teachers who will eventually form this school are currently an Annex of BSGG in North Kelvinside Primary School. In due course this school will have it’s own staff, head teacher, logo and tartan.

  • Annexe formed at Norht Kelvinside, 2022 with 29 pupils, (16 P1, 3 P2, 5 P3, 4 P4 & 1 P5)
  • Projected capacity of redeveloped St James’s site: 336 – 375 (source: FoI request 7965654)
